Day trip from Kyoto: Uji#

Uji is home to a large percentage of Japan’s tea production. As such, you’ll find tea everywhere in town.
Byodo-in Temple#
The big attraction is Byodo-in Temple. It has a lovely museum attached, with a large collection of buddhist sculpture.
The street leading up to Byodo-in is a shopping arcade, and most shops are selling tea and tea-related goods. We stopped at one to buy some tea, and stayed for some green tea flavored ice cream as well. Yum!
Specifically, I shopped at Akamon-chaya. The staff was very nice. https://maps.app.goo.gl/b23iQCUR2PKGAjsK8
The Nintendo Museum#
The Nintendo Museum is also in Uji.
You have to get tickets a month in advance (exactly a month in advance). I’ve never succeeded, so I’ve never been. I hear it’s neat.
